Change Your Mind
From Living to Eat to Eating to Live
Let us begin our journey and focus on a fundamental shift in mindset: transitioning from living to eat to eating to live. This change is about embracing a lifestyle where food serves as nourishment for the body and mind, rather than merely a source of pleasure. By adopting this perspective, you can enhance your health, achieve your wellness goals, and find greater joy and satisfaction in life.
Embracing a New Lifestyle: My Journey to Health
In 2008, I embarked on a transformative journey that led to me losing 48 pounds in just 27 days. This incredible change reshaped my relationship with food and kickstarted a new lifestyle. Suddenly, a handful of chips was enough to satisfy my cravings, and I no longer felt the need to devour an entire bag. The turning point came when I tried and succeeded on the HCG diet—it revolutionized my approach to eating and living.
This new lifestyle wasn’t just for me; I introduced it to my kids early on. For example, I gave them a small piece of dark chocolate before bedtime. Just a little treat to satisfy their sweet tooth without overindulgence. We started savoring a single scoop of ice cream instead of a towering bowl. And when it came to desserts like pie, it was all about enjoying a slice, not the whole pie.
By making these small, mindful choices, we began to experience food in a whole new way. The journey taught us that it’s not about depriving ourselves but about enjoying food in moderation. These little changes added up, making a huge difference in how we eat and appreciate food. It's all about finding joy in the taste of things, one delightful bite at a time.
I can remember my parents saying, “Your eyes are bigger than your stomach.” How true that was back then and even more so now! What we see isn’t always what we need, and what we want isn’t always what we should desire. Let’s focus on seeking out what is truly beneficial and healthy for our whole body.
The Power of Mindset
Our mindset significantly influences our behaviors and attitudes toward food. When we live to eat, we often prioritize taste and convenience over nutrition, leading to unhealthy choices and habits. Conversely, when we eat to live, we view food as fuel that supports our health, vitality, and well-being. This shift in mindset can empower you to make more conscious and beneficial dietary choices.
Creating new habits typically takes around 21 to 66 days, according to research. The exact time frame can vary widely depending on the individual and the complexity of the habit. For establishing good dietary habits, it often involves a combination of consistency, mindfulness, and gradual changes.
Start by setting clear, achievable goals and making small, incremental adjustments to your eating patterns. For example, incorporating more fruits and vegetables, reducing processed foods, and drinking more water can set a solid foundation. Tracking your progress, staying patient, and being adaptable are key components. Positive reinforcement and celebrating small victories can also help cement these habits over time. Consistency and perseverance are crucial for turning these practices into long-term lifestyle changes.
Remember we are looking to CHANGE our mindset from Living to eat to Eating to Live!
Next time we will look at emotional eating.
